Introducing the Hornby TT:120 BR Class 08 0-6-0 Diesel Shunter, running number 08817. This finely detailed model, finished in striking BR Blue, is a faithful representation of the locomotive as it appeared during era 8 and features a DCC-ready 6 pin socket for seamless digital conversion.
To create an authentic era 8 setting, pair the Class 08 with a selection of suitable rolling stock, such as our HAA Hoppers, which reflect the locomotive’s continued use in industrial freight operations, or our brake vans, which were frequently coupled with shunting locomotives during yard movements.
History
Built at Derby Works, this 350hp shunter entered service in August 1960 as D3985 at Tyseley Depot in Birmingham. It moved to Saltley in late 1967 before going north of the border into Scotland, serving at both Haymarket, Edinburgh and Ferryhill, Aberdeen before receiving its TOPS number 08817 in November 1974.
The locomotive transferred to Thornaby in the 1980s wearing BR blue, but was later given a repaint into an eye-catching black livery complete with the depot’s white Kingfisher motif. It was withdrawn in May 2004 and cut up by the end of the year.
